About MarathonPlans

MarathonTrainingPlans.org provides free, structured training plans for half marathons, marathons, and ultra marathons. No sign-ups, no paywalls — just clear, week-by-week schedules to help you cross the finish line.

The Story Behind This Site

Hi, I'm Alan. At 35, with absolutely zero running experience, I decided to run a marathon. No athletic background, no coach — just a goal and the willingness to figure it out.

Over 6 months of self-guided training alongside a full-time job, I completed the Chiang Mai Marathon in under 5 hours.

That experience taught me that the hardest part of running a marathon isn't the race itself — it's finding a training plan you can trust and stick to. I built this site to make that easier for everyone.

How Our Plans Are Created

Our training plans are generated using established running training principles — progressive overload, periodization, recovery weeks, and race-specific taper protocols. Each plan follows these core guidelines:

  • Weekly mileage increases of no more than 10%
  • Recovery weeks every 3–4 weeks
  • 2–3 week taper before race day
  • Structured workouts (easy runs, tempo, intervals, long runs) appropriate for each level

A Note on AI-Generated Content

Some content on this site is AI-generated and clearly marked as such. All AI-generated plans are based on widely accepted training methodologies, but they have not yet been reviewed by a certified running coach.

We believe in transparency — every plan displays its content source status so you can make informed decisions about your training.
